Dev diary: Trading Wars 2kX and the magic of daily turns

Remember dialing into a BBS at night to haul ore between ports? We rebuilt that feeling in a 1,000-sector 3D galaxy, with multiplayer universes on a real-time clock.

Remember BBS door games? Dialing in at night, spending your daily turns hauling ore between ports, and hoping nobody blew up your ship while you slept?

Trading Wars 2kX rebuilds that feeling for the browser.

Buy low, sell high

The galaxy has 1,000 sectors, rendered in 3D with three.js. Ports buy and sell, and they'll haggle with you. Find a good pair of ports close together and you've got a trade route. Bank your profits, upgrade your ship at StarDock, and keep an eye out for the FedPolice.

Trading at a port

There's a searchable galaxy map with autopilot: type "Sol" or the name of a port and it plots the course and takes you there.

Genesis torpedoes create brand new planets, and you can colonize them.

Multiplayer, the old-fashioned way

The heart of the old door games was that everyone shared a universe and only got so many turns a day. Trading Wars does the same: multiplayer universes run on a real-time clock with daily turns. You can form corporations with friends, talk on broadcast radio, and get email invites and alerts when something happens in your universe.

It plays on desktop and mobile, single player or multiplayer, with nothing to install.

Play Trading Wars 2kX and start your first trade run.
